The 5 Reasons Why You Should Be Using Firefox

By: Michael Primius

Tired of errors showing up while using Internet Explorer? You can start using Firefox, The web browser created by the Mozilla Foundation, and start forgetting about security issues and pages not displaying properly because of his superior design.

Instead of stuffing many features into the product, Firefox was built with a solid foundation and has the ability to get new functionality in the form of "plug-ins", which are installed by users when they need them.

There are many reasons to use Firefox, but these are the most important:

1. Respect of Standards. Firefox works following the standards dictated by the W3C Consortium, meaning that all pages built with those standards should be shown exactly the same in all browsers that respect those standards. Microsoft included functionality with the intention to keep users from using other browsers, which is felt as "bad behavior" by the programming community in general.

2. Improvement doesn't stop when they win. When Internet Explorer began his life in 1,995 nobody expected that it would threat the dominant position of Netcape, which had more than 90% market share. Microsoft worked very hard on Explorer, adding more and more features (and creating serious security risks because of the very fast developments) every year and suddenly, all developments stopped in 2,001 with Internet Explorer 6.0, till recently. This shows that Microsoft only moves when they are at risk.

3. Proven Security. When the US Computer Emergency and Response Team (CERT) recommends that you should be using any browser other than Internet Explorer, certainly you should listen. In this article: http://www.securityfocus.com/news/8998 they warn people about the security problems of Internet Explorer. Firefox was developed with security in mind, so it is much less vulnerable.

4. Mozilla brings complete Internet solutions. Not only they developed Firefox, but also created an email program called Thunderbird, NVU (a web page editor) and other programs that millions of people use every day.

5. Totally Free. The Mozilla Foundation develops all their software in the open source model, meaning that anybody can see the source and change it to their own needs. This helps in the creation of a much secure product because more eyes are looking into the possible problems.

While all this reasons are important, you should be using Firefox primarily because it is more secure and provides a better browsing experience than Internet Explorer. Maybe Microsoft will redesign or rewrite completely Internet Explorer in some future to be a more stable, but you can wait or start using a superior product that gets better every day, immediately. Download Firefox and feel the difference now.
